Published in June 1950, Batman #59 is the fifty ninth issue of the Batman (Volume 1) series. “The Man Who Replaced Batman” was fully written by David Vern Reed. The executive director was Whitney Ellsworth.

Interesting Facts

The “52 big pages” issue was successfully received around the world. In its fantastic cover it’s portrayed an out of space situation, with Batman and Robin in a starship. And Batman’s iconic bat sign showcased in the mood. The cover was designed by Bob Kane, Lew Sayre Schwartz, Charles Paris & Ira Schnapp. This issue was completely inked by Charles Paris.


Story Synopsis


Gotham City hans a new hero, and his name is Deadshot.  His main goal as Gotham's newest guard is to upstage Batman as the reigning crimefighter and for this to happen, he trained and prepared himself immensely. The public is not sure about him at first, but then they grow to like Deadshot. The Dynamic Duo remains suspicious of his motivations, ending up finding that he has a plan to take Batman out. Batman warns Commissioner Gordon, but as Deadshot has a clean record, he doesn’t believe him. Later on, Batman manages to make the fake new hero confess his true intentions.

Batman #59 was first released in 1950. The issue has seen some pretty wild price fluctuations. In 2006, an 8.5 copy sold for $1016. A decade later, an 8.0 copy was worth $5975. Even a 2.0 copy sold for $1195 in 2018. Today, you could expect a 6.0 copy to be worth around $3000.
