What's Batman #1 worth in 2024?
As of today there has never been a mint copy of Batman #1 reported. The highest graded copy on record is a CGC NM 9.4. GPA reports this book sold for $$2,220,000 in the January 2021. Intrestingly, this is by far one of the most expensive comic book to ever sell in the history of comic books. It is easy to imagine that if a CGC NM+ 9.6 were to come to market today it might easily bring $3,500,000 or more. A mid grade copy CGC VG/F 5.0 sold for $44,000 in 2009 and just ten years later brought $204,000. In 2021, the same 5.0 bumped its price to $360,000. A lower grade copy CGC GD 2.0 recently sold for $222,000 recently but brought a mere $16,000 in 2009.
Why is this comic book valuable?
Batman #1 is valuable for multiple reasons. First, it is the first comic dedicated to the exploits of the Caped Crusader. Second, this issue would also introduce the Cat, renamed Catwoman in the next issue, and Batman's nemesis, the Joker! One would become his love interest and the other would come to represent the dark side of Gotham! There are a total of 266 copies registered with the CGC Census. Over half (148) of these copies contain restoration or are incomplete. This leaves just 118 issues of Batman #1 unrestored!
